Our Water Creations Swim Academy (WCSA) Framework is a structured, comprehensive program informed by The Learn to Swim Framework. It focuses on progressively developing water safety, survival skills, aquatic abilities, and stroke techniques across all stages.
The WCSA Framework caters to swimmers of all ages and abilities, from beginners to those refining their strokes. It follows a progressive curriculum that ensures systematic skill development, building on the foundation of each level.
The framework is designed to progressively develop three key areas of learning: water safety, aquatic skills, and stroke techniques.
WCSA LEARN TO SWIM FRAMEWORK
Water Safety and Survival
As we teach in a pool with a deep shallow end, we have had to think carefully about how we approach The Learn to Swim Framework. Water safety and survival skills are at the heart of our Learn to Swim Framework, and mastering these is key to moving through the stages. Our goal is to help swimmers become not just confident in the water but safe too. We focus on gradually building these skills in a way that’s both engaging and practical, ensuring each swimmer learns to be both capable and secure in the water.
Water Skills
Aquatic Skills are abilities children need that are specific to swimming. These include: entries, exits, aquatic breathing, rotation and orientation, streamlining, health and fitness, buoyancy and balance, travel and co-ordination. These Aquatic Skills are fundamental in the swimmer’s journey in learning how to swim. Our goal is to help swimmers develop these skills by fostering a positive learning experience and progressively teaching these skills through fun games, activities, and practices at every stage.
Stroke Development
From Ducklings to Stage 7+, we tailor feedback to each level, helping swimmers master the four strokes: front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Our goal is to develop strong techniques and good habits, paving the way for future opportunities. We use the BLABT method (Body position, Leg action, Arm action, Breathing, Timing) to make learning fun and effective. We also have connections with local competitive swimming clubs that we actively promote.
The Learn to Swim Framework combines demonstrations, drills, guided practice, and feedback to help swimmers learn and improve. Our qualified instructors follow these guidelines to ensure consistent, effective lessons, offering the right support throughout each swimmer’s journey.
This approach helps swimmers build a solid foundation, gradually increasing their confidence, stamina, and technique. Whether for recreation, water sports, or competition, the framework provides a clear path for continuous growth.
Overall, our Framework makes learning to swim safe, enjoyable, and effective. It sets clear milestones, allowing swimmers to progress at their own pace while fostering a lifelong love for the water.
All about Swim England (formerly ASA) Learn To Swim Pathway
The Pathway takes your child on a journey from their first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water. The Learn to Swim Awards are a great way to keep swimmers motivated throughout their swimming journey.
It starts with the Swim England Pre-School Framework before moving on to the movement skills of the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework Stages 1 to 7. The final part of your child’s journey is the Swim England Aquatic (pre-competitive) Skills Framework Stages 8 to 10.
New swimmers joining us will be placed in a class most appropriate to their ability. You can find more detail on the awards programme below.
